Restore your smile with safe dental extractions

The idea of removing any of your teeth may sound scary or unnecessary, but there are times when it is important and essential. Drs. Steven Shandley, Elizabeth Kane, and Colleen Shandley of Shandley Kane Dental in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, are pleased to offer dental extractions for patients who require tooth removal. Our experienced dental team can remove damaged teeth safely and successfully.

Why might I need tooth removal?

The removal of natural teeth may be necessary for a variety of reasons:

  • Wisdom teeth extraction. The wisdom teeth, or third molars, typically don’t erupt until the late teen or early adult years. They often don’t have enough space to erupt, causing them to become stuck or impacted. They are also challenging to clean because of their position in the back of the mouth.  Removal may be recommended to prevent problems such as infection or damage to the adjacent tooth.
  • Damaged teeth. Teeth that have significant damage due to trauma or decay may require tooth removal if it cannot be restored due to structural compromise.
  • Prepare for orthodontic treatment. For patients who have severe crowding of teeth and a small mouth, strategic removal of certain teeth may be necessary in order to realign their smile. This alleviates overcrowding and allows space to reposition the teeth with orthodontic treatment and achieve a successfully aligned smile.
  • Prepare for dentures or dental implants. If you need to replace missing teeth with a dental prosthetic, the removal of the certain teeth may be necessary to make room for the new prosthetic. This may be the case for partial dentures, dentures, or implant-supported prosthetics.

What types of extractions are available?

At Shandley Kane Dental, we are pleased to offer both routine and surgical extractions.
